August bank holiday

Held in the village of Tarrant Hinton (near Blandford Forum), deep in the Dorset countryside, the Great Dorset Steam Fair (GDSF) is a traditional event blending together nostalgia and entertainment. The GDSF has been held annually since 1969.

The fair is the leading event of its type in the world today. It takes place over five days on the August bank holiday with in the region of 200,000 visitors attending each year. Spread across a 500 acre site there are around 2000 exhibits, 800 trade stalls and 220 full size steam engines, making it the largest collection of steam and vintage equipment in the world.

The exhibitions include tractors and farm machinery, classic cars, working shire horses and lots more There's plenty to do for the whole family too with the show also featuring a market, live music and steam funfair.

The Great Dorset Steam Fair really is quite unique. For the show's 40th anniversary in 2008, the organisers traced all the original exhibits from the first 1968 show and recreated the original fair!
