We were 3 friends looking for a traditional English pub in a small village to stay at near to a few local golf courses to try. The Benett Arms in Semley did not disappoint. Great staff, location and a lovey pub with very comfortable rooms/ The food and drink was excellent with a lovely outdoor space to watch the locals (including a donkey) go by. Recommend the local fresh milkshake dispenser and farm shop. We will be back.

Lovely town to explore. Gold Hill the main attraction but the streets at the bottom of the hill have lots of character and some thatched properties..We found a lovely millennium garden and a some interesting shops. Not so much to do on a rainy day around the area this time of year as the NT properties are not open yet so suggest visiting
March onwards.

Beautiful old town, cobbled streets, amazing views.
Beautiful old town, cobbled streets, amazing views. Gold Hill has to be seen (google Hovis advert) even my 20 year old was impressed. We had a wonderful breakfast at King Alfred’s Kitchen instead of eating at our hotel. We stayed at Grosvenor Arms Hotel, very central, no parking if you at staying but car parks are available. I live close to Arundel in West Sussex and it reminded me of the medieval history. Nice people, nice views, beautiful place to have a weekend away.

It is hard to give a review of Shaftesbury, having spent just an overnight in the town. From first appearances, though, this town and environs is well worth a longer stay to explore. The Restaurant, San Tonino, is well worth a visit.

I thought it was a gorgeous town and I definitely want to go back. The buildings are so old and the town is full of historical interest. We only had a couple of hours, after coming to visit friends, and it was pouring with rain, but we went to Gold Hill and had a lovely hot chocolate there, and visited a gallery, and just really enjoyed walking around. We saw a house which Thomas Hardy featured in 'Jude the Obscure' and a yew tree that pre-dates Christianity. We briefly visited the free Gold Hill Museum and definitely would like to go back there. Apparently in the summer there is a lido.

Great place to visit and walk round very pretty place.
But now the parking facilities for the hotel and local businesses in the High Street been made difficult.
Very sad, especially for us older clientele.
🥲
The room was a good size and the bathroom and shower were good.
I had dinner and there was a good selection on the menu. Breakfast and a good selection also and the Full English was just right, not too much.
The pub has an area with sofas and chairs which is great for relaxation after a long day cycling and the beers on offer are good. There was a music night on the night I stayed and that was enjoyable.
I was on a bike trip and they offered to store my bike in the pub overnight for security which was a nice gesture.
A brilliant home from home for a couple from which to explore the beautiful Dorset area. Everything provided you could wish for, very clean and great welcome. Lovely views from living room to a pretty garden then across playing fields to distant hills. Shaftesbury is a lovely small historic hilltop town and its easy to get to the many attractions of Dorset and its coast through beautiful little villages. Totally enjoyed our stay. Thanks
Beautiful house in a perfect location 5 mins walk from the centre of Shaftesbury. The hosts were very polite and friendly, happy to engage in conversation, however not intrusive. Were very helpful when asked questions. spacious room with lovely shower room. Breakfast was amazing, excellent choice of really good quality and tasty food all beautifully presented.
will definitely stay again if we return to the area.
lovely place in keeping with the aesthetic and feel of the the town. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Had lovely dinner and breakfast. Perfect English country hotel. Loved the email prior to arriving, we packed a small bag for the night so that we didn't have to lug our big suitcases up the stairs. Very considerate thinking ahead....
This is a beautiful example of how a property should be after working for weeks in the area in accommodation that doesn’t really meet ideal expectations this property was absolutely spot on!
Beautiful barn conversion just a short drive out of Shaftesbury, absolutely spot on with comfortable bed and decent shower.
Our room was spacious including the en-suite. All the meals were good(breakfast and dinner). Parking was fine. There is a petanque area, complete with boules. There are loads of outside tables to use for drinks and meals. Very dog friendly. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful.
Absolutely lovely hotel, great location, comfortable rooms, good swimming pool and plenty of choice at breakfast.
The stay was made by the lovely staff that work there from Sue and Chelsea at breakfast, helpful staff at reception and not forgetting Peter the night porter.
Really recommended

The Lodge at Goldhill glamping was very comfortable and cosy and a brilliant tasteful little place to stay when exploring Shaftesbury and the surrounding area. We loved the log burner and the well equipped kitchen. The lodge was clean and nicely decorated and dog friendly too!
It was really good. It was a wonderful way to start our break. The town centre was a short walk away with Shaftesbury itself being a very interesting town. We would not hesitate to return to La Fleur de Lys. Lovely room first class service and excellent food and wine
Brilliant location for exploring Shaftesbury and a very unique stay in a slice of history. Updown Cottage is well equipped, small but perfectly formed! Lovely touches like baby grand piano, cupboards full of games and good quality kitchen appliances and utensils.
The Studio is a quaint small cottage idea for two people. Its in beautiful countryside, and we enjoyed our stay in this quiet secluded cottage. It was our first visit to Dorset and it was ideal to visit both countryside and coast.
This is a really nice hotel and restaurant, right in the centre of the beautiful town of Shaftesbury. The room was lovely and very comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant was very good. Decent beers available in the bar.
