Monkey World
Monkey World

65 acres homing over 150 rescued primates. Open daily.

Monkey World is a monkey sanctuary and theme park near Wareham. Spacious enclosures in a natural woodland setting are home to more than two hundred and forty rescued and endangered primates from around the world. Many of the monkeys are refugees from the illegal smuggling trade which Monkey World is actively working to bring to an end.

There are five different species of Gibbon, seven species of Monkey and three groups of Orang-utangs currently living at the park as well as the largest group of Chimpanzees outside of Africa, living in four different social groups. Monkey World is engaged in the successful breeding of Orang-utangs as part of the European Endangered Species programme and is home to Europe's only Orang-utang creche.

The grounds include an outdoor play area, woodland walks, a soft play area, a cafe, a gift shop, an education centre and a picnic area. In the Malgasy habitat it is possible to come nose to nose with the primates. Informative talks take place throughout the day and a primate adoption scheme is available for those who want to get involved.

There are conference facilities available for hire and Monkey World is even a fully licensed wedding venue offering an all-inclusive wedding package. The sanctuary is open daily all year round. The nearest train station is at Wool.
